[Meredith Vieira] Actor Victor Garber went down with the ship in the most successful movie of all time,
Titanic, and these days he's up to his neck in intrigue, action, and spy games on the hit ABC series, Alias.
Take a look.

(A clip from Alias: The Confession is shown.)

[Jack Bristow] There are so many things that - that I should probably do. I mean, as a father. Things I
should ask...and say.

[Sydney Bristow] Dad, it's alright. Really.

[Meredith Vieira] He's good. Please welcome Victor Garber.

(The audience cheers and applauds. Victor Garber, smiling, walks out carrying a small blue box. The audience
gives Victor a standing ovation.)

[Victor Garber] (to audience) Thank you! That's so nice! Thank you!

[Victor Garber] (to Meredith Vieira) Listen.

(Victor hands Meredith the small blue box and greets her with a kiss on the cheek.)

[Meredith Vieira] Thank you, very much!

(Meredith Vieira and Star Jones sit down. Victor stands in the middle of their semi-circle.)

[Victor Garber] Because this is - this is in lieu of a hideous fight we had back-stage. I just - I felt so badly
about it. I just had to bring you something.

(Victor sits down in between Star Jones and Joy Behar. The ladies all laugh.)

[Joy Behar] Oh, open it!

[Meredith Vieira] Alright. Can I open it?

[Victor Garber] Yeah, you can open it.

(Meredith Vieira opens the box Victor Garber gave her.)

[Meredith Vieira] Mmm-hmm.

[Star Jones] Like it?

[Lisa Ling] Ahh.

[Meredith Vieira] It's not ticking; that's good.

[Victor Garber] No.

(The audience laughs.)

[Star Jones] What do you have?

[Meredith Vieira] Oh, earrings. Awww.

[Victor Garber] Earrings, yeah. Yeah. They're Dana's, back-stage.

(The ladies all laugh.)

[Meredith Vieira] Awww.

[Victor Garber] I just borrowed them from Dana.

[Star Jones] They're very cute.

[Meredith Vieira] I have to give them back?

[Victor Garber] Yes, you do. Yes you do.

(The audience laughs.)

[Meredith Vieira] What would you do if you were me?

[Victor Garber] I would give a gift. I think that when you have a fight that the best thing you can do is give
a, like a lovely blue box.

[Victor Garber] (to Joy Behar) Hello, nice to see you.

[Joy Behar] Nice to see you.

[Lisa Ling] Hi, Victor.

[JG] Are - he's mad at her still. That's why he's not going to give it. Either that, or he can't remember he got it.

[Victor Garber] Who - who caused the fight is -

[Meredith Vieira] I caused the fight, which means I should not ask for the gift in my -

[Star Jones] Have you apologized?

[Meredith Vieira] Sort of, yeah. Yeah. We've apologized, didn't we though? Like, you know I didn't ask for it.

[Victor Garber] He - he will give you the gift. It'll just take a little time.

[Meredith Vieira] Thank you.

[Lisa Ling] Maybe you should give him a little gift, too.

[Victor Garber] Well, no, I don't think she should ask, no, because that's sort of like begging.

[Meredith Vieira] Yeah, it's pathetic. And it's not -

[Joy Behar] Well, why don't you put - put one of the kids up to it? Daddy, look what I found?

[Victor Garber] Well, that's very nice. Yeah. Put the kids in the middle, it always really works well. I know,
in my case, it really works well for me. I was a middle child, and I'm a mess.

[Meredith Vieira] So, Victor, are you having terror sex?

[Victor Garber] Sex with a terrorist?

(The ladies all laugh.)

[Victor Garber] I didn't quite get that. Terrorist sex - sex with a terrorist. No, it's 'cause I'm too busy. I'm
too busy.

[Meredith Vieira] Oh, you are.

[Victor Garber] Hi, Star.

[Star Jones] Hi, Victor.

[Victor Garber] Nice to see you.

[Star Jones] Nice to see you.

[Joy Behar] Did you indulge in anything after September 11th?

[Victor Garber] I indulged in everything.

[Joy Behar] You did.

[Victor Garber] Yeah, and I still am.

[Joy Behar] Yeah. Why?

[Victor Garber] Because any excuse, that's the thing, you know, you can't use these things as - as an
excuse.

[Meredith Vieira] Yes.

[Victor Garber] 'Cause otherwise you're in big trouble.

[Joy Behar] Yeah.

[Victor Garber] And you pay for it, you know. But you gain a lot of weight or you - children.

(The ladies all laugh.)

[Meredith Vieira] Either way it's bad news.

[Victor Garber] Either way.

[Meredith Vieira] In your new show, you - you play a double agent and you have a lot of action scenes.
You're constantly beatin' someone up, doing - and you never break a sweat. Have you ever seen this much
action in - in your acting before?

[Victor Garber] No, and I'm shocked that I'm actually doing it. I can't - I can't believe anyone actually
asked me to play a spy.

[Meredith Vieira] Really?

[Victor Garber] And I'm so happy.

(The ladies all laugh.)

[Victor Garber] Yeah, because then I get to -

[Meredith Vieira] You don't see yourself as that actor.

(Victor Garber clears his throat.)

[Victor Garber] I'd rather play real idiots - I, [assholes] - I, sorry, can I say that on television?

[Meredith Vieira] No!

[Star Jones] You just did.

[Joy Behar] No, you can't.

(The audience laughs.)

[Victor Garber] I thought you could say that.

[Meredith Vieira] We've said everything else but -

[Victor Garber] No, you know, I play like womanizing, uh, idiots, or - or [assholes] - and, um, or, but - but
I, you know, to play - to play a complicated double agent spy, you know, with a beautiful daughter. This is, uh,
this is so much fun.

[Star Jones] You look a little spy-like, though.

[Victor Garber] Do I?

[Star Jones] Yeah. You - You've kind of got that spy look about you.

[Victor Garber] Yeah, I'm kind of mysterious, aren't I?

[Lisa Ling] How do you prepare for all the physical action that you do?

[Victor Garber] I drink.

(Everyone laughs.)

[Victor Garber] No, I - I, you know what I do? I - I - I go to the fight coordinator and I say "just make me
look good." Just, whatever you do, just make me look good. So, on this week's episode, on Sunday night,
there's a big confession, uh, which I reveal something, which I'm not gonna tell you.

(The audience says "Aw.")

[Victor Garber] I'm sorry, I cannot tell you. But you have to watch. And then - but I actually do a cool
move this week with my elbow which I was so impressed with 'cause I have to like - it said in the script, you
know, "he punches him," you know, so I thought, oh okay I can do that. And, what I do is I -

(Victor pretends to punch Star with his elbow. Joy Behar laughs.)

[Star Jones] Really.

[Meredith Vieira] Like Kung Fu almost.

<

font color="#FF0000" size="1" face="Verdana">[Victor Garber] It's Kung Fu, yeah. And, uh, I would never have thought to do that but the stunt
coordinator, you know, they - that's what their job is, is to make you look like you can do it. Jennifer Garner,
you know, does it all.

[Lisa Ling] She is amazing.

[Victor Garber] She fights and she kicks and she - she's astonishing, really.

[Lisa Ling] Yeah.

[Victor Garber] You know, she says it's from her ballet training but I think it's really -

[Joy Behar] That she's a guy?

[Victor Garber] That she's a spy!

(Everyone laughs.)

[Joy Behar] She thinks she's a guy!

[Lisa Ling] No, she's - she's great.

[Victor Garber] She really is. She is not a stunt guy. She's great - she's really great.

[Joy Behar] Now, you know, we know you from the theater.

[Victor Garber] Really?

[Joy Behar] You're very much the theatrical actor.

[Victor Garber] Uh...

[Joy Behar] Now what made you do, you know, a series like this on TV?

[Victor Garber] Joy.

[Joy Behar] Besides the cashola, baby!

[Victor Garber] Cashola. I wanted to buy a lovely apartment in Manhattan.

[Joy Behar] There you go.

[Victor Garber] And, uh, with a terrorist, okay?

(Everyone laughs.)

[Victor Garber] Someone once said to me, a - a - a - a wonderful actress named Kate Mulligan said to me
once, "you know, I look at every job as a new bathroom."

(Everyone laughs.)

[Victor Garber] And that - that's exactly - that's really what it is, you know. So, I will, uh, I'll be - you
know, if this goes for a couple of years, I'll be comin' back and buying the nicest village apartment with a
lovely terrace - you'll all come over; it'll be great.

[Lisa Ling] There's just so many people who remember you from The Titanic, Oscar Award-winning Titanic.
Did you ever anticipate that that movie would become as big as it - as it was?

[Victor Garber] No, we were, you know, we were basically, uh, in - in - near Tijuana, drunk. Um, just on
the, you know, we were - I was there at the very end of the movie - they, they, they kept me there to do a
shot that was never in the movie but, you know, no one ever believed that it would do what it did, I mean,
except maybe James Cameron because, you know.

[Joy Behar] The king of the world.

[Victor Garber] He is the king of the world. You know, and you have to say, I mean, you know, it was a
complicated and difficult shoot but - but - but when we saw this - you know, we got to the premiere, it was - it
was, I thought, how did he do this? How did he make this movie?

[Joy Behar] Yeah.

[Victor Garber] It was, like, it was astonishing. Gee.

[Meredith Vieira] It was really good.

[Victor Garber] Yeah, it was good. It was good - it was a good movie.

[Joy Behar] A lot of people didn't like it.

[Victor Garber] Really?

[Joy Behar] Yeah. Plenty of people.

[Victor Garber] Yes. People come up to me and they say, "I saw you in something, what was it?" I say,
"Titanic." "I didn't like that."

[Joy Behar] Yeah.

[Victor Garber] Oh, really. Oh, thanks for - thanks for sharing, you know.

[Lisa Ling] The biggest movie in the world but -

[Meredith Vieira] I don't think people don't realize that you're an accomplished singer - that, that - now,
come on, you are, in high school -

[Victor Garber] I have - I have done musicals and I -

[Meredith Vieira] You were part of a folk group called The Sugar Shack, is it? Or Shoppe?

[Victor Garber] Close.

[Meredith Vieira] Sugar Shoppe.

[Victor Garber] Very good. Sugar Shoppe. Shoppe. Shoppe.

[Meredith Vieira] Shoppe. Sugar Shoppe.

[Victor Garber] Yeah. I was in The Sugar Shoppe, I'm sure you all remember that group.

(The audience laughs.)

[Meredith Vieira] It was a folk group.

[Victor Garber] No, it was sort of loosely based on the Mama's & Papa's. 'Cause when I was a kid that's -
they were my favorite group and I wanted to be - and, and so we formed this group in Canada, and uh we
recorded a song, a centennial song called "Canada" and it became a big hit, um, and we were on The Ed
Sullivan Show. We actually -

[Joy Behar] The song was called "Canada?"

[Victor Garber] Yes, like the country.

(Everyone laughs.)

[Victor Garber] Well, yeah, it was like a centennial song. Yeah.

[Joy Behar] Like on South Park, that one?

[Victor Garber] No, it was not like on - no. It was a kind of reverential song.

[Joy Behar] You know, I would like to make a song called "New Jersey."

(Everyone laughs.)

[Victor Garber] I think the New Jersey people would like you for that.

(The audience cheers and applauds.)

[Meredith Vieira] We love you whether ya' sing or you don't, okay?

[Victor Garber] Thank you. Thank you very much.

[Meredith Vieira] And thank you for the earrings.

[Victor Garber] They're beautiful.

[Meredith Vieira] A generous man.

[Victor Garber] Yeah, aren't they nice?

[Meredith Vieira] Our thanks to Victor Garber.

[Victor Garber] Yeah.

[Meredith Vieira] Don't forget to watch Alias Sunday nights at 9 right here on ABC. We'll be right back.

(The audience applauds.)
